Whether this is your first experience, or your fourth, you are about to experience what will be nothing less than life-changing -- you are bringing a new life into this world. You have such a tremendous privilege in caring for this life, and with that privilege comes responsibility. In this day and age, we are on information overload, and it is easy to become overwhelmed by the voices all around you, isn't it? It is so easy to lose your own voice in it all, but it does not have to be this way.
Doulas are not a new idea in birth. Women in birth were once surrounded by others, strong women who had traveled this same path, and knew that the birthing woman must travel this path her own way. It was, and still is, a rite of passage. A doula is there to walk alongside you on this path, helping you physically and emotionally, to help you find your own way, and to find your voice in birth that will rise above them all.
